AN ILAHI OF DELIVERANCE

To be sung especially on the nights joining Thursday to Friday in celebration of the Radiant Juma’a, insha’allah.

LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABBAYK
LABBAYK LA SHARIKA LAKA LABAYK
INNAL HAMDU
WA NI’AMATA
LAKA WA MULK
LA SHARIKA LAK! (REPEAT)
In the grips of icy death
With the air taken from me,
I do hear the cries of dervish souls
Taken from this world
Merged into Divine Mercy
Yet I struggle within my heart
I know where I too must go
Yet I look upon those whom I love
And I fear to leave them
This form too must be laid down
So that the new might be born
Dying before I die
In the doors of death I stand
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABAYK
LABBAYK LA SHARIKA LAKA LABBAYK….
As I contemplate the forms of this world
And dare to gaze beyond the veil
Knowing that fana is not easy
But that it is the only way
I hesitate again
And I also know
That surrender is the only way
Complete and total
Surrender against my desire to not surrender
Accepting to be no more
This is not an easy thing
The sheets of death are like mountain faces, steely and cold
There is nothing to hold onto
I am in the narrow place
Therefore I can only let go
With tears and fears
Wondering if this is the Divine Mercy
Yet knowing in my heart the real Truth
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABAYK……
The glorious night of Juma’a comes
The radiant Beloved all adorned
Nur flows forth into all the world
Lovers gather in mystic embrace
I struggle to breathe on my bed of pain
Alone yet surrounded by the lovers
Of Love
Carried by their du’a
Wrapped in the station of Hayy
Our Mystic Surgeon at work on the case,
Hazrati Pir Muhammad Nureddin al-Jerrahi
Is with me; his mother my beloved Hazrati Amina Teslima keeping watch over me
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABBAYK…..
My fears are overwhelming me
I cannot sleep for fear
That the waters of my lungs will drown me
And that there will be none there to save me
Ah, the folly of my wisdom
I drift off to sleep
The walls of the room are expanded to infinity
The ceiling and the roof are removed
Vast open heart space
There is snow everywhere:
Snow that is neither wet nor cold;
Snow that shines with the most brilliantly warm light
And the Angel is there
An angel thousands of feet tall
An angel millions of feet wide
An angel of Nur
An Angel of humour
Places his hands on the left side of my chest
Reaches in an pulls out something
Tells me that all will be well
That it has been removed
Tells me to prepare the Juma’a
Tells me to put on my white garments of the Juma’a
Tells me to celebrate the Juma’a all alone in my hospital bed
Oh, great wonder!
Oh, darkly brilliant mystery!
The piece of flesh removed
Opens the Doors to Hayy!
LABBAYK……………..
The Angel tells me
That I was brought to this place for a reason
That for me to learn the meaning of dying before dying
I had to be brought to the jaws of death
That I could only come to Hayy
By experiencing Death
The Angel told me that this was my khalwa
That this was my retreat
That this was my chilleh
My days of seclusion
To be present for those being united
To Divine Beauty
To be a midwife
To accompany to the True Life
To proclaim with all my being:
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABBAYK….
The Angel tells me
To no longer fear what appears to be negative news
For sometimes it is through what appears to be negative
That we are brought to a positive place
My mistake is to get stuck in the loop and no longer
Realize that it is a passageway.
If it holds true for what the doctors say;
How much so more it is true for our Glorious Path
Says the Angel, teasing me and making me smile.
The Angel never speaks out loud;
All communication is in the state of qalbi
The Angel tells me teasingly thrice to clean up my bedroom
I have smiled and laughed with the Angel
I have felt the Divine Mercy
I have burned with ashk
And now the Angel leaves,
I return to my body
And it appears to be dead:
The hospital bed is lowered,
The oxygen mask removed
All is stillness
I look around the room
Saying in my heart
I have died!
Then I notice the lovers of the beloved in sleepy vigil
I hear their breathing
I touch my chest and I am there
I open the curtains
There is movement there
Then I see that everything that was on the left side
Of the bed
Had been gathered and thrown violently from on high onto the floor
In exactly the spot where the Angel stood
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABBAYK……….
ALLAHU AKBAR!
ALLAHU AKBAR!
LA ILAHA ILL’ALLAH!
ALLAHU AKBAR WA LILLAHI AL-HAMD !
The chest X-rays return:
There is no longer any pathology
The problems in the left side of the picture have completely vanished!
La ilaha ill’allah!
Allahu akbar!
What else is there for us to say
We have disappeared behind the Veil
Where there is only Hayy!
LABBAYK ALLAHUMA LABBAYK…..
Let us join in the mystic dance of love
Let us give thanks and praise forever in transports of joy
To the One Who is Life
Without whom we do not exist
Without whom we are not even a thought
Without whom we do not breathe
In Whom is our beginning
And our end
For they are ever the same;
Without whom the Universe does not spin
Daily we are slain
Daily we are born again
Daily are we on the sands of Kerbala
Daily we are born in the glory fields of the Martyrs of Love!
